Pinterest Not Focused on Growing Daily Active Users
Revelation appears to contradict subsequent statement related to pleasing advertisers.
October 28, 2022
Like other companies with slowing user growth, Pinterest (PINS), a social media firm, no longer wants investors to focus on user growth. After flat user growth the prior three quarters, Pinterest grew active users by 2.7% in the latest quarter. However, in new language inserted in its latest quarterly filing, Pinterest acknowledged user growth is no longer a priority:
“Our growth efforts are not currently focused on increasing the number of daily active users, and we do not anticipate that most of our users will become daily active users.”
The new language appears to slightly contradict later statements in the filing. While acknowledging its focus is on increasing engagement— which will help it better serve advertisers— Pinterest also acknowledged it needs to increase the size of its user base.
